First Night takes place on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31.
5 PM-Midnight  in 28 venues in Downtown St. Petersburg

FIRST KIDS
5–8:00, The Pier

  • Start your First Night activities at 5pm at The Pier! First Kids has a 19-year history of fun and silliness for the entire family. Come create crazy New Year's party hats with Sherri Lundquist and disguise yourself with a mask made with artist Julia Settles.

    Our annual Musical Petting Zoo brought to you by the 2nd Time Arounders Band will be in the Community Room of The Pier, located on the first floor near the food court. It's all about the music. Maybe after tonight your child will turn into the next Justin Bieber.

    Join in our annual New Year's Eve Procession to Beach Drive for the loudly popular Bubble Stomp.

Rebekah Pulley & Ronny Elliott and Chorus Angelorum
7–11:30, St. Petersburg Museum of History

  • Museum Of History and the Florida Humanities Council presents a special night of music and culture from two of Florida's outstanding singer songwriters; Ronny Elliott and Rebekah Pulley will perform from 7-8:30 pm. Then Chorus Angelorum, a premier nineteen member, volunteer acapella choir, will perform a wide variety of classical to contemporary popular pieces from 9-10 pm. You will be awed at the talent of each of these performances.

Peek in a Pod
6–Midnight, South Straub Park

  • In PODS mobile storage units selected artists including Blue Lucy, Coralette Damme, Sara McClaron and Kim Radtaz will create unique one of a kind spaces

Tattoo Parlor
7–11:30, South Straub Park

  • Get a limited edition temporary tattoo of this year's First Night artwork.

Labyrinth
7–11:30, South Straub Park

  • Enjoy a stroll through this New Years Eve tradition. We have a special message for you to start your New Year. We also give a special thanks to The Pier Aquarium, David Ellis, and Gary Crosby for working together to build this years experience.

Designing Your New Year
7–11:00, South Straub Park

  • Fashion designer Ivanka Ska will create a 10 FT wire sculptured dress with fabric, and give you the chance to attach your resolution, business cards or other affirmation for the new year.

St. Petersburg Preservation's "Discover History in the Parks"
5–midnight, South Straub Park

  • Pick up your treasure map and learn about St. Pete history as you find the special history stops in the park. At each stop a set of colored beads await! Those who collect each color are rewarded with a special treasure!

The Bucketman
7–11:30, Museum of Fine Arts Sidewalk

  • St. Petersburg native Chris Harris, takes it to the street with his fast-paced rhythms beat out on plastic pickle buckets. The street performer makes his living this way (supporting a wife and three children), playing after most professional sport games, concerts, and festivals in our area including Gasparilla and New Orleans' Mardi Gras.

Little Latin Quarter
8–11:30, Museum of Fine Arts Collande Entrance

  • Simone Amaral is one of Tampa Bay's leading dance instructors. Her studio offers 4 locations for classes throughout the Tampa Bay area. Tonight you can join her and DJ Manny to freshen up your step or learn the basic bachata and salsa dance. Simone Salsa will be offering brief lessons in front of the Museum of Fine Arts.

LCC Vesper Bell Choir
7–8:00, Museum of Fine Arts

  • The Lutheran Church of the Cross presents their Vesper Bell Choir. This experienced adult bell choir group performs at LCC throughout the year and brings a series of performances to the St. Petersburg community throughout the holiday season.

Dundu Dole
8:30 and 10:00, Museum of Fine Arts

  • High Energy and colorful costumes are just the beginning of why this is one of Tampa Bay's premier dance companies.

Walk Like An Egyptian
7–11:30, Museum of Fine Arts Back Porch

  • Please visit the Museum of Fine Arts for a hands on Egyptian Art project. This art activity is design for kids of all ages and will have you wanting to come back to see their exhibition: Ancient Egypt Art and Magic, Treasures from the Foundation of Grandur pour l' Art.

Off the Wall
7–11:30, Museum of Fine Arts North Wall

  • Artist and designer David Meek of Phillip Gary Design will create a visual experience through design projected on the North Wall of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Resolution Bonfire
5–midnight, North Straub Park

  • Find yourself gathered around the First Night Bonfire. This once a year event is a time to sit around and tell stories of the past year. Close by you will find the resolution project that will get you talking about what is in store for you in 2012.

Drum Magic
8–11:30, North Straub Park

  • This community drumming circle directed by Jana Broder, is an invigorating physical, psychological, and emotional human experience that reconnects us to ourselves. Jana will work with the group and you will see how easy it is to drum with 75 other people in a constantly changing group.

The Bubble Stomp
Approx 8:30–8:40, Bayshore Drive

  • We have lined the street with Bubble Wrap so come join in The Stomp! This fun will only last about 10 minutes—so don't be much past half past 8 or you will be late.

MAIN STAGE
7:00–10:00, North Straub Park

  • 7:00 Sound Parlor
  • Three teens ages 14–16 from St. Petersburg, FL, have created a unique sound reminiscent of the bands of the 60's and 70's . These teens will start our main stage that will be rockin' us into the New Year!

  • 8:00 Suite Caroline
  • Hailing from Clearwater, FL Suite Caroline is only 14, but has already released 3 CDs of all original music, and signed a deal with SONY/ ATV in Nashville. She has opened concerts across the nation for many popular artists including Martina McBride, Blake Shelton and Lifehouse. She has sung live with Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Charlie Daniels and the GoGo ́s. She has played supporting stages for Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley and Willie Nelson, among others. The Official Magazine of the Martin Guitar Company says... "She is a fireball of talent and guitar artistry, drawing enthusiastic crowds wherever she performs."

  • 10:30 Vodkanauts
  • KABOOM the Vodkanauts! This group will have you dancing and singing your way into 2012! The Vodkanauts excel at performing time-tested tunes with inventive arrangements, delivered with a heightened level of showmanship and crowd- pleasing energy. After you hear them once you will be finding out where they are performing next!

Get Your Fun On with T.A.S.C.O
7–midnight, North Straub Park

  • Music, games, and more presented by T.A.S.C.O, the City of St. Petersburg Recreation Department's award winning teen programs.

Winter Olympics Skating
6–Midnight, North Straub Park

  • Who says you can't ice skate in Florida? Get ready for the Winter Olympics and glide into the New Year on a realistic ice skating rink! BYOS (Bring Your Own Socks)!

Jon Shain and The Empty Hats
7–11:30, Plaza Courtyard

  • Durham, NC based award winning, singer songwriter, with six solo albums to his credit , Jon Shain has opened for such artists as John Hiatt, Keb' Mo, Jackson Browne and Little Feat. If you missed Jon last year, this is your chance! The Empty Hats are a dynamic group of performers that surprises and delights their audiences both visually and aurally. "Enthusiastic", "charming", and "passionate" are just 3 words to describe this acoustic blend of traditional and original Celtic music.

Michael Lynche and the B Tampa Bay Steel Orchestra
7–8:00, First United Methodist Church

  • St Petersburg's own American Idol, Micahel Lynche, comes back home once again to ring in the New Year to perform in the intimate setting of The First United Methodist Church. This year Michael will be the featured along side of the Tampa Bay Steel Orchestra. Michael and the TBSO, under the leadership of John Shaw, will perform songs from Harry Belfonte, Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffett. This is sure to be an exciting performance with an authentic sound that is alternately energetic, upbeat, and soothing!

St. Petersburg Opera Company
7:30–11:30, St. Peter's Cathedral

  • St. Petersburg Opera Company will present a program of everyone's favorite opera arias at St. Peter's Cathedral. Narrated by Artistic and Executive Director Mark Sforzini, this offering of Puccini, Bizet, Rossini and Mozart will enchant both seasoned opera lovers and newcomers to the opera genre. Also joining the opera company will members of the Palladium's prestigious Encore Series. They will perform works by Mendelssohn, Glinka and Beethoven.

KA BOOM
9pm and Midnight, From the Vinoy Basin

  • First Night St. Petersburg and Creative Pyrotechnics proudly bring to you the largest firework display since last year's. Starting at 9pm with our traditional First Firework display, make sure you have the best spot in the park for the finale at midnight.... you will not want to miss this year's final Hoorah!
